Encouragement for the day:

Sunday, October 9, 2011

John 7:37 – On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”

We have been given an invitation from the most high God to enter into His kingdom, His inheritance!  He yearns for us to draw near to Him, to receive the gift of salvation, to lay our burdens at the foot of the cross.

If you haven’t given your life to Jesus, will you consider it now?  It doesn’t matter what you have done or what has been done to you.  He beckons you as His bride.  You were the reason He lived…and died.

Pray something like this:  Lord, I know I am a sinner.  I know that I deserve the consequence of my sin.  I trust you, though.  I believe that you shed your blood for my sins.  I want to try to live a life that glorifies you.  Forgive me.  I ask you into my heart.  Amen.

If you have given your life to Jesus, maybe this is a good time to reconnect with God.  To recommit to His ways, His will.

Encouragement:  As we receive God, His provision, His love, His faithfulness, our joy will overflow as we are filled with His Spirit!  Even when we re-commit our wills to His, there is a refreshment, a restoration that happens inside of us.

Genesis 1:24 – And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds:  the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.”  And it was so.

I don’t know about you, but when I speak this verse aloud, I get the Jesus bumps!  “And it was so”.  How cool is that!  He created earth for us to inhabit with all of its beauty and splendor.  Let’s soak in that a moment.

Pray with me – God, as the winds continue to caress the waters of creation, as the waves of the sea crash loudly, as the hills and the trees stand strong together, and the sun, moon and stars shine brightly, all expressing thanks to You, so we thank You for Your continued presence throughout the entire family of creation.

…and He saw creation and said that it was good.

Encouragement:  God didn’t stop at creation.  He didn’t stop at the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus.  He loves us so much that He continues to make  beauty out of the mire (the void).

Genesis 1:20 – And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”

In Africa there are beautifully exotic animals that we can enjoy!  God made them for OUR enjoyment!  The animals here are not that different from our human lives on planet earth.  He is our Creator and Sustainer.  We are dependent upon Him for every breath we take.

What are our needs?

What are our wants?

Encouragement:  In the Word it says that if He (the King of the universe) provides for a plant or animal that goes unnoticed, how much more would He provide for His children…in whom He delights!  He shows off in the little things to cement in our hearts the knowledge of His abounding love for us.

Genesis 1:1-8 – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.  And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Close your eyes and try to imagine what the universe felt like when it was formless, void, and completely dark.  Open your eyes slowly and notice the light that floods through your lashes then into your entire field of vision.

What do you think the universe was like without a sun, moon, stars or even planet earth?

Name 3 things that you find amazing about God’s creation.

You are a “re-creator” – taking what was already made and creating something new.

What did He create specifically for you?

Encouragement:  God is the source of all creation.  In the deep void, He spoke, and light came.  The first light of creation became the light of redemption, available to us all.

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The word of God has enormous treasure hidden in it!  I truly believe that Daddy enjoys illuminating His word to us.  He manifests His presence through His word!  Meditate, ponder, study, practice and utter the word to fill your life with His presence!

What is your favorite scripture?

What does this scripture mean to you?

Has that meaning changed over time?

In your opinion, what does, “…it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” mean?

Encouragement:  Daddy reveals Himself, His secrets, His delight through His word!  The more you sow into seeking it out, the more you reap His harvest (wisdom, guidance, knowledge, understanding and peace).

Ephesians 6:13-17 – Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

It says in this passage to be strong in the Lord, putting on your full armor, to protect yourself against the schemes of the enemy.  It is important to remember that our battle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against the powers and principalities of darkness.  Satan comes to kill, steal and destroy – but God has come in power to set the captives free.

Take a couple of moments, grab a friend and put your armor on together.

Since we know that our battle isn’t with others, is it easier to forgive those that we see as wronging us?

Is there anyone that we need to make amends with?  If so, would you like to do that now?

Encouragement:  It is amazing that God equips us with the power and authority to come against that which comes to destroy!  Think about making this a morning ritual.  Call a friend, put it on together.  There is nothing better than starting our day with the protection/covering of our Daddy!

James 5:16 – Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Psalm 17:6 – I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.

Matthew 21:22 – If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Mark 11:24 – Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Prayer is a foundation to living as a disciple of Jesus.  Prayer edifies, encourages, develops intimacy, spiritually exercises (thoughts, heart, intentions), it changes things and blessings are promised.  John 14:14 says, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”  The Lord is jealous for our prayers!  He earnestly awaits them!

Do you believe that prayer changes things?

Do you have any prayer requests?

Ask around.  What are the prayer requests of others?

Sometimes we forget all of the blessings (fruit) of our prayers.  Think for a moment about the prayers that you have prayed that have been answered.  List a couple of them here.

Encouragement:  God can do more in one minute than we can do in a lifetime!  Don’t be afraid to talk to the Lord.  He delights in our prayers and says that when we pray, He listens.

Take some time to rest in the Lord October 2, 2011

Isaiah 40:31 – but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Exodus 33:14 – The Lord replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Drawing on the Lord, waiting in His presence, breathing in His word, receiving a fresh in-dwelling of the Spirit will strengthen us in our time of need.  Rest now as you breathe in His aroma…

Take some time to rest in the Lord.  Quiet your mind.  Posture your heart in worship.  Allow His presence to restore your soul.

Encouragement:  Many times when reality steals our joy, we need to escape into the presence of our King to become refreshed and restored.  Take that time and reap the benefits.

Learning to recognize the voice of God October 1, 2011

Psalm 5:3 – In the morning You hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I prepare for You and watch and wait.

Isaiah 30:21 – Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Learning to recognize the voice of God can be challenging.  We must find times to be still in order to “hear” His calling/leading/direction.  He will lead you by an inner knowing, by common sense, by wisdom and by peace.

Be still.  As you quietly wait on Him, write down anything that you might sense.

Encouragement:  Present yourself to Him.  Even if you don’t hear Him, you will be honoring Him by seeking Him.  God doesn’t always speak right away, but if we are diligent in seeking Him, He is faithful to respond.

Is there a calling on my life? September 30, 2011

1 Corinthians 15:41 – The sun is glorious in one way, the moon is glorious in another way, and the starts are glorious in their own way; for one star differs from and surpasses another in its beauty and brilliance.

1 Corinthians 12:2 – Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

Have you ever wondered why you were created?  Have you ever asked, “Is there a calling on my life?”  And, if so, what is it?  After years of asking myself the same question, I finally realized that the gifts that we manifest naturally are the natural extension of our “calling” here on planet earth.

What are your gifts (what gets you excited!)?

How are you using or will you use these natural abilities to be a blessing to others?

Encouragement:  God made you.  He didn’t make a mistake.  He thought of you, He created you and now He continually delights in you.  Be confident that you are here for a purpose!  Co-partner with those around you to be the best you can be!  The body cannot function without all of it’s parts!
